Strengthening the policy work of the Circle U. office

Meet Jovana Maričić, Circle U.'s second intern at the office in Brussels.

Who are you?

I recently graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, Serbia, where I got a master’s degree in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, as well as a bachelor’s degree in International Relations. My career began as a researcher in a think tank in Serbia, where I contributed to various impactful projects in areas of EU integration, democracy, and the fight against corruption.

Over the past seven years, I have gained experience working and volunteering in different NGOs, with roles that span project management, project financing, design, and sales. Recently, I have been exploring the field of Public Relations, further broadening my professional skill set.

Why do you want to work for Circle U.?

I applied to Circle U. because I am deeply interested in policy work and eager to kickstart my career by gaining professional experience in a supportive and innovative environment. I believe that Circle U. will provide me with the necessary skills and experiences to grow both personally and professionally.

What are your main tasks?

At Circle U., my responsibilities include supporting the office’s policy work, particularly in relation to the European Strategy for Universities and the European University Initiative. I monitor EU higher education and research policy developments, prepare clear briefing papers on specific EU policy developments, and participate in events in Brussels organized by EU institutions and stakeholders. Additionally, I conduct thematic analysis and research relevant to Circle U., and provide administrative support for the organization of events, meetings, and other activities.

What do you do in your spare time?

Outside of my professional life, I have a passion for graphic design and enjoy using Adobe Illustrator to create various designs. I am also interested in gender equality and peace building initiatives and have researched sexual violence in armed conflicts in my academic area of expertise. In my spare time, I love painting, dancing, and engaging with different forms of art.
